Brave, horses, sketches

Yesterday, Pixar released the first trailer for their upcoming film BRAVE online.

It just looks gorgeous - I can't tell you how excited I am for this.

Feeling inspired, I decided to try my hand at drawing some horses.

The first one is from imagination, the two others from references. I guess you can tell. =)

Horses are beautiful creatures. I really should learn to draw them properly.

Beside that, I've been sketching, too :

Composition study

I've been doing some composition studies from Shutter Island, a movie that blew my mind in the theater, especially visually.

Martin Scorsese sure can handle scenes with multiple characters. Great, great staging.

And you just have to love that last shot (bottom right).

Also, some sketches. Enjoy !

Sketchbook completed !

I have filled my sketchbook today and just started a new one - which by the way smells deliciously good. Just thought I would share a couple of drawings to celebrate !

Here are some people... :

THE ART OF TOY STORY 3

Today I received a copy of the gorgeous book 'The Art of Toy Story 3' ! About time !

If you haven't got one, you should definitely check it out. It's got some beautiful, inspiring art all around.

I got particularly excited about the storyboards, as it's the field I'm interested in pursuing.
There is - among others - awesome story work from my two favorite sequences in the movie :

the dump/incinerator scene (storyboards by James Robertson and Adrian Molina) :

and the heart-breaking final scene (storyboards by Jason Katz, head of story) :

These are definitely the kind of sequences I would have LOVED to work on.

So yeah, go get the book - it's totally worth it.

By the way, here are some recent sketches that I did in Aix-en-Provence :

Scaphandres !

Imagine how cool it would be to have a movie with characters like THIS in it.

Characters wearing badass diving suits.

On a side note, I'm currently learning this piece on the piano. Not that I'm a die hard Twilight fan, but it's such a beautiful melody... Alexandre Desplat rules.

And I thought I'd let you know that next september I'll be starting animation school in Angoulême ! Can't wait to start and meet my classmates !

Hmm. Not sure whether it's a cow or a horse, actually.
